Dairy Town Classic

EST 1986

Our History

The Dairy Town Classic committee had its beginnings in November, 1986, when Ron Harvey, and Peter McAleenan launched an idea to create a high quality boys basketball tournament that would provide the citizens of Sussex with the opportunity to watch top-notch basketball in Sussex and also provide competition for the home team.

The first step was to find major sponsors to help finance the tournament and that is where the Allan Charters, New Brunswick Milk Marketing Board and Pizza Delight came into the picture.

The first six DTC's had eight teams in a single elimination format.

In the fall of 1992, the committee decided to add a girls section, thus making Sussex the only community in Atlantic Canada at the time to host a 12-team boys and girls tourney.

Other activities have been added since 1987, including summer camps, clinics, junior varsity, middle school and mini games, bursaries for players and coaches, scholarships, and funds for schools and programs.

President's Message

Dave Baxendale

It’s the 2025 Dairy Town Classic! On behalf of the DTC committee, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all the players, coaches, parents, and spectators. I also, want to express my appreciation to all the volunteers that work year-round to make this event a continued success. I am so grateful to all the sponsors and advertisers, that join us year after year, who make it possible to host this high caliber basketball tournament. Special thanks to the Jenkins, from the Fairway Inn, as they have been with us since the beginning and have recently retired. Each year the Classic holds special memories. I can’t wait to see what this year’s edition holds in store.

So sit back and enjoy all the games and all the activities that make the DTC such a special time of year! Best of luck to all participants!
