Dairy Town Classic
EST 1986
Our History
The Dairy Town Classic committee had its beginnings in November, 1986, when Ron Harvey, and Peter McAleenan launched an idea to create a high quality boys basketball tournament that would provide the citizens of Sussex with the opportunity to watch top-notch basketball in Sussex and also provide competition for the home team.
The first step was to find major sponsors to help finance the tournament and that is where the Allan Charters, New Brunswick Milk Marketing Board and Pizza Delight came into the picture.
The first six DTC's had eight teams in a single elimination format.
In the fall of 1992, the committee decided to add a girls section, thus making Sussex the only community in Atlantic Canada at the time to host a 12-team boys and girls tourney.
Other activities have been added since 1987, including summer camps, clinics, junior varsity, middle school and mini games, bursaries for players and coaches, scholarships, and funds for schools and programs.
President's Message
Dave Baxendale
Welcome or maybe I should say welcome back! It’s been a long road to get here but we are so excited to be hosting the Dairy Town Classic once again. After the unfortunate cancellation of the past two tournaments it is so nice to be back in the gym and witnessing the high level of basketball we have all come to expect from the DTC. Our committee has stayed together and stayed committed and we are thrilled to welcome all the players, coaches, parents, and spectators back. Thank you to our many sponsors who were still so eager and willing to continue their relationship with our tournament. The DTC would not be possible without their generosity.
Now that we are back in action, we can sit back and enjoy the high level of competition that makes the Dairy Town Classic so special. So I hope everyone has a great weekend with great competition and great sportsmanship. Most of all have fun and best of luck to all teams!
